About this deal

I have read many of Jeremy’s books, and I find that his openings don’t grab my attention enough, but when I get to the middle the book becomes more interesting. I enjoyed this book because I thought parts of it were funny. My favourite parts were where he enters a competition and wins and when his Mum and Dad make heart shaped pizza. I would like to read more books by this author because I thought it was a funny story.

Kitty: Perlis is crazy about chariot racing. And is being taught by Scorcher [the best charioteer in Rome.] Unfortunately, scorcher has been sent to jail … even worse on the BIG RACE! What’s perilous going to do? This book is based in the roman period .I would also recommend this for [9-11] years. As this will make u giggle and smile for the rest of the day. My favourite part was when they first stared to break out of prison because every one gets scared of the ginormous elephant when it distracts everyone with its huge sneeze. Perilus is a Roman boy who is crazy about chariot racing. He loves to practise in his own homemade chariot (pulled by the family goat) and dreams of riding in the Circus Maximus himself one day. But when Perilus's hero, the brilliant charioteer Scorcha , goes missing on the day of the big race, Perilus finds his wish coming true sooner than he'd imagined! Daniel: This book is set in ancient Rome. It is narrated by a talking Raven called Corvus, who thinks he is very clever and funny. He is the pet of the main character Perilus, who is the son of the head of the Roman Imperial mint. Perilus’ family are very wealthy; he lives with his dad, mum and sister in a large villa and the family have two slaves. Perilus wants to be a charioteer, much to his father’s disgust because he wants him to head of the Imperial mint like him one day. Perilus is only 11 and likes to get up to mischief which is probably why he wants to be a charioteer, one of the most dangerous jobs in the Roman economy.

If Jeremy wasn't a writer he would want to play the piano really, really well, or be a terrific artist. The book did make me feel like I was in the roman times. I think that the history in the book is realistic, because of the characters names, the activities that they did and the description of their clothes although the story was sometimes a little hard to follow, but I did really like all the different characters because they were all very funny. I love this book because it makes you laugh and at the same time makes you wonder what is going to happen next. My favourite bit is when Maddasbanaus uses his fire engine to save the house because now, we use them so often but he would have invented and used one first. Jo and Arturo: This book was set in Roman times. It has loads of fantastic characters such as Perilus the owner of the raven, Krysis (Perilus’s dad), Flavia (Perilus’ mum) and Hysteria (Perilus’ sister). The key events in this book are about Scorcha the charioteer getting sent to prison on his big day of chariot racing. It’s also about a raven that beomlgs to a family that absolutely loves biscuits. I think you can guess what happens in the end. If not I’ll tell you only a tiny bit of it though so that I don’t ruin it for you. Croakbag the raven gets as much digestive biscuits as he could ever imagine. I would recommend this to everyone in the world literally. Scorcha didn’t know anything about it but Trandia (Maddasbannanus’s old girlfriend) loves him and kisses him. I really enjoyed it I thought it was very funny. I liked the crow he was very amusing when he said "give us a biscuit". The history was very good and very realistic it felt like it was wrote as the author was there. It made me want to learn more about chariots and Roman soldiers and has inspired me to look at more books written by this author.

It is a story which is told through the eyes of a raven. He visits different places and meets different people like the emperor. Mulan - I'll Make A Man Out Of You - Make sure you use the lyrics above!

Hi Jo, I really want to start this approach in my school (we have huge classes, so carousel is impossible!) - I don't suppose you have any Year 3 samples of planning and children's work to look at?

But when Perilus's hero, the brilliant charioteer Scorcha , goes missing on the day of the big race, Perilus finds his wish coming true sooner than he'd imagined! A laugh-out-loud story from King of Comedy Jeremy Strong. About This Edition ISBN: The emperor had announced the biggest chariot racing competition in the whole world but Perilus’ mum and dad are in jail and he has to get them out. What I liked about the story was that it was very funny and interesting because of Croakbag and Perilus who were really funny. Croakbag tells us the story in a very funny way and the bit about the Emperor’s visit for dinner really made me laugh. His descriptions of the chariot races are also very exciting and made me want to read more. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone who likes comedy, history, Ancient Rome and chariot racing.

He loves to practise in his own homemade chariot (pulled by the family goat) and dreams of riding in the Circus Maximus himself one day. I really loved this book a lot. My favourite bit is when the trumpets go BLA bla-BLAAAA!! Is it realistic John: I didn’t like the book because it was difficult to follow the story line and I found it rather dull. I was surprised not to enjoy it as I had read other books by Jeremy Strong before – like “The Hundred Mile and Hour Dog” which I really enjoyed. The funniest part of the book was when the elephant (Tiddles) broke into a prison, and used water to squirt the guards, to save Waddya’s family. Maddashbananus made the skateboard and the people who race in races use skateboards. The history contained in the book was quite poor. It described a Roman family in modern times so it didn’t show what Roman times were like. The author tried to add humour but I didn’t find the jokes very funny. The book may suit younger readers more (age 6-7 maybe).
