About this deal

I have now recategorised salmon fishing as “fishing” and take both a trout rod and sea trout rod with me. I just want to be out and with a chance of catching something. Not sure that 'magazine' really does it justice, possibly better described as a collection of fly fishing short stories in a quality A4 book format?

The World Salmon Forum’s mission is to sustain wild Atlantic and Pacific salmon, seatrout, and steelhead populations for the future. Salmon diversity and abundance are a gift from the past through millions of years of evolution and adaptation. Our collective stewardship should ensure that wild salmon remain a legacy for future generations. Wild salmon populations in both the Atlantic and Pacific basins have declined dramatically over the last century and many populations are at imminent risk of extinction. The World Salmon Forum (WSF) brings together a coalition of scientists, advocates, and foundations dedicated to sustaining wild salmon. WSF will challenge the way in which salmon are managed and investigate the science required to underpin effective management. These days on the bottom part of the Wye we have to fish hard, really hard from March until June to get the best out of the fishing we have left. After June the last few years have told us that we do not have the wet stuff to fish in.I have some more average pictures and boring 2022 fishing tales to come, but for now. I think this is more than enough... For sinking tips or full sinking fly lines I'd shorten my leader right down to as little as 3ft with a very heavy 'type 7' (or heavier) tip or to a 4ft to 5ft leader length with a regular 'type 3' tip as again you don't want your sink tip down and the salmon fly riding higher which it will do with a longer leader. Keeping different leader weight material coiled up in your fly box is wise so you know you've always got spares if you lose your leader as forgetting a leader spool is easy but its unnecessary to carry the entire leader spools about with you. A few neatly coiled spare leaders of varying breaking strains sit perfectly and look at home in any fly box. Choosing Which Sink Tip To Use Warden Fishings, N Tyne This is my 2022 season in a picture, -1 " and blazing sunshine, not a day for Salmon fishing Speaking at the launch of the picture book to coincide with World Book Day on March 3 rd, the manager of the project, Shane O’Reilly of Inland Fisheries Ireland, said: “ This new book offers a unique glimpse into Ireland’s past, showcasing the detail and beauty of traditional Irish salmon flies and the wide range of materials and techniques used by Irish fly dressers at the time. Many of those fly dressers are now revered around the world for the quality of their craft, so this collection is of significant cultural importance too, and is now available for the next generation to discover.”

New book brings “long-lost treasure” of Irish angling to new

Traditional Irish salmon flies, commissioned one hundred and twenty years ago for the Cork International Exhibition in 1902, are set to feature in a new historical picture book to mark ‘World Book Day’. This forum is for general discussion related to Angling. Areas covered would include Media Reports, Conservation Issues and the promotion of the sport. We are experiencing the collapse in the number of salmon anglers posting on here. Last year by this time we had 70 posts, this year, there are 7 posts. I have no way of telling how many salmon anglers up and down the Wye are renewing their Salmon permits for 2023 but for Ross AC I do know and we are down by one third on numbers compared to last year. I'm just glad we don't have the same level of membership costs that some on the Wye have to contend with plus the now common," exclusive access to salmon fishing from March to mid June" for considerable sums of money, WOW! A new thread for all news, views, catches, reports in 2023 for the wonderful Ribble, Hodder and many tributaries.

Truth is though, that even when I started about 20 yrs ago when the runs of salmon and sea trout were out of this world, it was never an easy river to fish but so long as I know the fish are there, blanking for nights on end has never bothered me as I consider it my fault for not solving the puzzle. If this keeps repeating year in and out then the majority of fishing is going to be lost as these dry years have a huge impact on the aquatic life that forms part of the food chain for many other creatures. Ross probably like many other fisheries has its one season fly by nights who take a permit expecting the salmon to come to them but we have lost some committed salmon anglers who for one reason or another have decided to throw in the towel on the Wye. I have asked WUF for their observations on this and whether or not they will make representation to the EA on behalf of the angling community, not that hopeful of any action from them judging by past history but somebody has to represent the river users !! That is some drive for you from Cambridgeshire. Let us all hope we have some decent fishing conditions for this coming season to make it worth your while.

Every year, going to work on the 16th September, you'd be guaranteed to see his wee Honda 90 scooter parked up at the same place. In July, we arrived in Mayo to be greeted by a falling flood, cloud cover and wind, i.e. conditions to die for and great for grilse in the Lough systems of that county. A fortnight later, two of us had one 3lb grilse to show for our efforts. There have been many blank days on the Ridge Pool and coincidentally, the webcam has been out of action since early July. IFI appear to be in denial and continue to pen fishing reports that make everything sound rosey. Salmon angler numbers are limited by the Committee to 35 but this year with a change in Club rules any spare rods left at the end of the Salmon Membership renewal window which is 10th February are going to be given over to coarse angling applicants. This shows the clout that coarse anglers have these days and I think it is very said state of affairs. The World Salmon Forum is designed to bring together wild salmon conservation groups from around the world to share new policies and measures that will provide for the survival of these magnificent animals. The latest problem and major issue we have is the building of Hinkley Point power station om the Somerset coastline. It is my understanding that a majority of the salmon travelling to the Severn Wye and Usk make their way through these waters. The original planning application include sonar devices placed underwater to deter fish from the area, EDF , the builders of the nuclear power station are now seeking change the original planning application to remove the fish sonar as they no longer consider them necessary and are in discussions with the EA on getting permission to do this.Roag Fisher is spot on, the Keeper said they’d had a good push of water 6-8 days before I fished and a good number of fish had run through into the Loch. The bulk and weight of a salmon fly leader should be selected based on the bulk and weight of the salmon fly being used. The art of effectively & effortlessly 'turning over' a salmon fly is 100% to do with energy transfer to the fly after the forward delivery power stroke of the cast has been applied. In other words a very light or limp leader will struggle to make that energy transfer effective all the way to a salmon fly if the leader has not been selected with the bulk and weight of the salmon fly being used. Salmon Leader Length & Breaking Strain gave it a couple of hours either side of high. not expecting much due to the ground swell but had bites on every cast from whiting and dogs. maybe other things too but that's what i landed. A forum to discuss casting techniques and events. For the angler wishing to increase his distance and the tournament caster.
