About this deal

Nuanced, funny, super steamy and surprisingly tender, The Roommate raises the bar for rom coms in 2020 – a smashing debut, and I can’t wait for more by Rosie Danan!” —Evie Dunmore, author of Bringing Down the Duke Wildly original and sexy romance . . . this delectable rom-com is both red-hot and fiercely feminist‘ Publishers Weekly And this is why I love forced cohabitation because there’s always tension and mutual pining between the characters. Not gonna lie, the last book I read also had forced cohabitation 😜 Sex Positivity and Consent 💑 Warmly funny and gorgeously sexy, this porn-star romance is the most wholesome thing I’ve read in ages‘ The New York Times EXCLUSIVE: After optioning the screen rights, Greenland and The Night House producer Anton has tapped rising U.S. scribe Meredith Dawson to adapt Rosie Danan’s debut novel The Roommate, which has been getting strong notices ahead of general release next month.

Change always comes with a closing cost. But it's still worth trying. Not because the odds are particularly good, mind you, but considering the alternative. There's value in the struggle. Value in touching the raw and bloody parts of our souls, opening them up to the sunlight, and hoping they heal.” Plot: I love a good roommate trope. Especially when they’re, *gasp*, different than each other in almost every way! Omg. But seriously, it was well done and I loved watching their relationship develop through them learning to live together. This brings me to my next point: there wasn’t a time when a scene didn’t help the story along. Each moment had a purpose. I didn’t realize how infrequently that can happen in novels and I was here for this one. A powerful, feminist book, that makes you laugh as hard as you cheer. The Roommate is sunshine in the form of a book‘ Alexa Martin, author of SnappedThe Roommate is unapologetically sexy as hell. Danan’s writing, like her characters, is funny, seductive, and full of heart‘ Meryl Wilsner, author of Something to Talk About Clara Wheaton is the consummate good girl: over-achieving, well-mannered, utterly predictable. When her childhood crush invites her to move across the country, the offer is too good to resist. Unfortunately, it’s also too good to be true.

More on sex positivity, The Roommate never shied away from the idea that partners should achieve equal importance when it comes to sexual pleasure, and more importantly the idea of the female gaze and pleasure in the adult entertainment industry. Fun Fact: this was the first book I read on my new Kindle Paperwhite. Yes, I caved in and finally bought one, but that’s another story for another time. 😏Rosie Danan’s The Roommate is seriously sexy, seriously smart’ Helen Hoang, USA Today bestselling author Rosie Danan is the award-winning, bestselling author of The Roommate, The Intimacy Experiment, and the upcoming Do Your Worst. Her work has been optioned for film as well as translated into 9 different languages and counting. The New York Times describes her writing as "warmly funny and gorgeously sexy." Funny, super steamy and surprisingly tender, The Roommate raises the bar for rom coms in 2020‘ Evie Dunmore, author of Bringing Down the Duke The chemistry between them was so electrifying and sizzling hot, that sometimes I feel like I’m literally present in the room with them. I have to admit I found myself anticipating their steamy scenes because it’s that effective! What an incredible debut! Danan gives us strangers to annoyed-roommates to kinda-friends to angsty-pining to finally-lovers with humor, wit, and just a hint of pathos. Josh and Clara are easily my favorite ‘smash the patriarchy’ couple, and The Roommate is easily one of my top romance reads of 2020!” —Jen DeLuca, author of Well Met

It was strange to want something for so long, to turn it over so many times in your mind, that the image became as faded and worn as an old Polaroid. To become so consumed by the yearning in your heart that when you got what you’d always longed for, you could hardly recognize it.” When not working on her next book, Rosie enjoys jogging slowly to fast music, petting other people’s dogs, and competing against herself in rounds of Chopped using the miscellaneous ingredients occupying her fridge. Characterization: Josh was my favorite of the character just because he was given the most room to grow and he did. I learned his strengths, weaknesses, dreams, insecurities, history, everything. It was done in a way that you didn’t always notice. His story arc was stunning and the best part of this novel. Clara was a little less defined but I think that was part of her character. I wish I would have seen more of her changing. And Naomi! She was a precious badass that I am so looking forward to following into Danan’s second novel. I loved how we learned about her and she wasn’t jaded about Clara and Josh even if Josh and her had been together for so long. She was great and knew exactly what she wanted. Dislikes: But it was also full of achingly cute and adorable scenes, even the slightest little things they do for each other. UGH, I LOVE FLUFF! 💖 And not only with Clara and Josh but also with their relationships with their friends and family, like Jill (Clara’s Aunt) and slightly with Naomi, who has this no-nonsense woman with a strong personality but is really a cinnamon roll inside. Final Thoughts 💡the scary things, the ones you spend the most time and energy talking yourself out of, are the ones that make life worth living.” Change always comes with a closing cost,” Naomi said. “But it’s still worth trying. Not because the odds are particularly good, mind you, but considering the alternative. There’s value in the struggle. Value in touching the raw and bloody parts of our souls, opening them up to the sunlight, and hoping they heal.” Fast forward to this year, I tried again and I couldn’t stop! I think I burned through about 6 hours just reading this book. While Clara was as innocent as she can be, she goes out of her comfort zone, at her own pace, and Josh, as flirty as he can be, emphasizes the importance of consent and mutual pleasure. I think it’s one of the greatest points in the book!

Producer-financier Anton is producing, and The Gotham Group ( TheMaze Runner series) is executive-producing. The deal was negotiated by Anton’s John Zois who will oversee the project, and the Gotham Group’s Dillon Asher. The book was sourced for Anton by its creative executive Holly Hubsher. After a bait-and-switch, Clara finds herself sharing a lease with a charming stranger. Josh might be a bit too perceptive—not to mention handsome—for comfort, but there’s a good chance he and Clara could have survived sharing a summer sublet if she hadn’t looked him up on the Internet... Clara and Josh were thrown together due to circumstances with Clara’s friend, Everett. See, Clara was supposed to room with Everett, but the guy fled to go on tour with his band. So Clara and Josh “from Craigslist” ended up living together in Everett’s apartment. The New York Times calls Rosie Danan’s debut novel, THE ROOMMATE “a book about people expanding into their best possible selves…warmly funny and gorgeously sexy.” The rom-com received a 2020 Ripped Bodice Award for Excellence in Romantic Fiction and has been optioned for film. A companion book THE INTIMACY EXPERIMENT is forthcoming April 6, 2021 in the US and UK. James McAvoy, Lucas Bravo, Aisling Franciosi & Almudena Amor Set For Thriller ‘Turn Up The Sun!’, Filming Underway In UK — AFMWhen not writing, Rosie enjoys jogging slowly to fast music, petting other people’s dogs, and competing against herself in rounds of Chopped using the miscellaneous ingredients occupying her fridge. Let’s Chat! And they were roommates! Sorry, I had to! Ugh, this is such an amazing novel! The characters were completely fleshed out, the side characters were phenomenal, and the plot was GREAT. I loved that Danan switched the typical childhood crush and jealous ex tropes on their heads and made me love the novel so much more. Clara’s journey to growing up from her family’s expectations was beautiful and progressed at a believable rate. And Josh? So sweet. I thought that his story was amazing and I was so freaking proud of him for stepping up and taking initiative in his life. I had only a few issues because overall this novel was *chef’s kiss* phenomenal! Loved: This isn’t the first time I read a book where the heroine is a “prude” and naive (not the first time I read a book with a main character who’s a sex worker either 👀) when it comes to sex, but I think that The Roommate will be a memorable one for me because the author was able to convey self-exploration in a really positive and healthy light.
