About this deal

The characters talked so gibberish when they mention about their professions. As Jess talks about statistics or River makes explanations about genetics I felt like my head may explode because of information bombardment! Those parts made me lose my interest about the story. Single mom Jess Davis is a data and statistics wizard, but she’s hasn’t been a whiz in the dating department. Raised by her grandparents—she’s been left behind too often to feel comfortable letting anyone in. Sometimes I wonder if you’re answering my questions, Jess grumbled, or continuing an ongoing conversation in your head.

But then she hears about a buzzy new matchmaking company that claims to find you the One using a DNA equation. Suddenly, love doesn't seem quite so far out of reach . . . Juno had been excited for the date, not only because she adored her great-grandparents and got Nana Jo’s cooking when Jess was out, but also because they’d recently watched Adventures in Babysitting, and Fizzy’d told her it was a pretty accurate depiction of what dating was like. In Juno’s mind, Jess might end up dating Thor. With a lively style, narrator Patti Murin entertains the listener. She differentiates between the characters and captures their personalities through her use of tone, rather than giving each a distinguishable timbre. Listeners will be amused by Murin's portrayals of several secondary characters, notably Jess's young daughter and the romance author who is Jess's best friend. A lighthearted production with a narration that is sure to charm."

The writing team of Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings—authors of more than 25 novels, including the ‘Beautiful’ series—makes its hardcover debut with this funny romance about a single mom who trusts data more than men. That’s put to the test when a new DNA-based dating service matches her with the creator of the genetic profiling technology, a mystery man who also frequents her coffee shop." At the end of the novel, River hands Jess an envelope with their DNADuo test data, but she decides not to look. Would you look in the envelope? Friends, this book is witty and sweet and so swoony. I rooted for Jess and River from the outset and laughed out loud more times than I could count. Add it to your to-be-read list, ASAP; future you will appreciate it. Washington Post Jess, too, inspected him top to bottom. More like a socially constipated medieval art professor. She tried to remember when he’d started coming in here. Maybe two years ago? Almost every day, same time every morning, same drink, same sullen silence. This was a quirky neighborhood, and Twiggs was its heart. People came in to linger, to sip, to chat; Americano stood out not for being different or eccentric but for being almost entirely silent in a space full of boisterous, lovable weirdos. Nice clothes, but inside them he’s all grouchy, Jess mumbled. Fizzy began peeling the paper off her muffin. “What I was going to say is that you can’t throw in the towel because of one bad date.”

Did any one else feel like the ML waited to see his actual compatibility score with the FL before reaching out to her (after a 8 day radio silence). Lauren (Love and Other Words, 2018) has penned a hilariously zany and heartfelt novel... the story is sure to please readers looking for a fun-filled novel to escape everyday life with." Booklist

Fizzy nodded, mumbling aloud as she typed: ‘She glanced away from his penetrating gaze, defeat coloring her features a milky gray.’ I'm a huge Christina Lauren fan, so The Soulmate Equation was one of my most anticipated reads of 2021, and it did not disappoint! It's now in my top three favorite books by the writing duo, and I would argue it's their most tender love story yet. Both Jess and River are cautious and guarded when it comes to relationships, but as scientists, they're optimistic about what data can prove — this results in an interesting dynamic and irresistible pull between them as they navigate their attraction. The slow-burning romance feels believable, and you'll be cheering them on with each sweet moment. Plus, props to the authors for developing such a unique premise — the whole DNA-based dating idea definitely makes it stand out in the crowded romance space. I struggled to think of another book I've read that's similar, which I think is a good thing. There's also one tiny detail at the end that the authors leave open for interpretation that I still think about! Standout Quote You have such a crush on Americano,” Fizzy said. “Do you realize you watch him whenever he comes in here?”So… Her brows climbed her forehead. Americano was apparently very comfortable with pointed silence. Is that a ‘no’ to matchmaking?
