About this deal

It is with great joy that Denalyn and I dedicate this book to Kahu Billy and Jenny Mitchell and the wonderful congregation of Mana Christian Ohana. For fifteen years you have made your home our home away from home. We hold you dearly in our hearts. Don't worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. In Joshua 1:8, we are told to “keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.”

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.You are the air traffic controller of your mental airport. You occupy the control tower, directing the mental traffic of your world. If a thought lands, it is because you gave it permission. If it leaves, it is because you commanded it to do so. You select your thoughts." There is a reason the windshield is bigger than the rearview mirror. Your future matters more than your past.” Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. In Philippians 4:6-7, the Bible says: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Anxious - Online Bible 26 Bible verses about Anxious - Online Bible

I am inspired by the premise of the book, those verses were written by Paul at such a difficult time and yet he lives in joy, I can say “yes, I want that too” and feel motivated to change to make that happen. Intellectually I am frightened by the statistics and research highlighting the silent epidemic that is anxiety and the horrible effects of a life lived anxious. Max paints a vivid picture of why, logically, we need this change. Practically, I have things to do at the end of each chapter and they really make a difference. The lines I loved say it best: Pulpit Commentary Verse 6. - Be careful for nothing; rather, as R.V., in nothing be anxious. Μέριμνα is anxious, distracting care. St. Paul does not wish his converts to be careless, but to be free from that over-anxiety about worldly things which might distract their thoughts from the service of God, and hinder their growth in holiness. Comp. 1 Peter 5:7, where the apostle bids us cast all our care ( μέριμνα) upon God. The thought of the Lord's nearness should lead us both to be forbearing in our relations to others, and also to keep ourselves free, as far as may be, from worldly anxieties. "He careth for us." But in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. "Curare et orare," says Bengel, "plus inter se pugnant quam aqua et ignis." In everything; in each emergency, little or great, as it arises, pray; cultivate the habit of referring all things, great or small, to God in prayer. The two words rendered "prayer" and "supplication" προσευχή and δέησις) occur together also in Ephesians 6:18; 1 Timothy 2:l and Ephesians 5:5. The first has been defined by Chrysostom and others as prayer to obtain a good; the second, prayer to avoid an evil Better, perhaps, as most modern commentators, προσευχή is the general word, covering the idea of prayer in its widest meaning; while δέησις is a special act of supplication for some particular object of need (see Trench, 'Synonyms of the New Testament,' sect. 51.). With thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is the necessary accompaniment of prayer; it ought never to be absent from our devotions; it springs out of that holy joy which St. Paul so constantly sets before us in this Epistle as the bounden duty of Christians. St. Paul himself is an example of constant thanksgiving. All his Epistles, except those to the Galatians, 1 Timothy, and Titus, open with a thanksgiving. In the dungeon at Philippi he and Silas "prayed and sang praises unto God" ( Acts 16:25). Our requests, the things for which we ask, are to be made known unto God; πρὸςτὸνΘεόν before God, in the presence of God, by prayer, the general converse of the soul with God; and by supplication, direct petitions for the supply of our necessities. Indeed, he knows our necessities before we ask; but we are encouraged to make them known before him, as Hezekiah took the letter of Sennacherib and spread it before the Lord. In Isaiah 26:3 it says, “ You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Do not be worried for anything, but always in prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be known before God, When we are still and know that God is in control, we will find peace. We don’t need to be anxious when we trust in the Lord. He will take care of us. Daily Bible Verses To Help You Be Anxious For NothingI’ve read a number of Lucado’s books, and I’ve yet to be disappointed. This book was a bit shorter than I expected (and I would’ve loved it to have been longer!), but there is so much information to be gained in it that I took my time reading it. In Isaiah, the Lord says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9). K) “I have [ c] manifested Your name to the men ( L) whom You have given Me out of the world. ( M) They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. 8 For I have given to them the words ( N) which You have given Me; and they have received them, ( O) and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that ( P) You sent Me. I bought this book for a friend of mine, and she enjoyed it so much that she let me borrow it for myself since she knew I also struggled with anxiety. I did enjoy this book overall. It read like a great reminder of things I already knew, but it was nice to be reminded & refreshed. I especially loved Chapter 6 Prayer, Don't Despair and Lucado's suggestion and biblical reference for praying specific prayers. That definitely emboldened me to begin to pray about truly, every little thing.

Prayer is one of the most powerful weapons we have against anxiety. When we pray, we are talking to God. We can tell Him our fears and concerns. We can ask for His help. We can also thank Him for His many blessings. 6. Is your heart weighed down with worry? Look for these signals: • Are you laughing less than you once did? • Do you see problems in every promise? • Would those who know you best describe you as increasingly negative and critical? • Do you assume that something bad is going to happen? • Do you dilute and downplay good news with doses of your version of reality? • Many days would you rather stay in bed than get up? • Do you magnify the negative and dismiss the positive? • Given the chance, would you avoid any interaction with humanity for the rest of your life? If you answered yes to most of these questions, I have a friend for you to meet. Actually, I have a scripture for you to read. I’ve read the words so often that we have become friends. I’d like to nominate this passage for the Scripture Hall of Fame. The museum wall that contains the framed words of the Twenty-third Psalm, the Lord’s Prayer, and John 3:16 should also display Philippians 4:4–8: Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. When our treasure is in heaven, our hearts will be there too. We won’t be as worried about the things of this world. Instead, we will be looking forward to the joys of eternity with God. Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.
