About this deal

Cocaine Bear comes with an English DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 mix that is downmixed to 5.1 on my configuration. This mix has deep, resounding low end, and wide panning across the front. The dynamics are excellent, and dialogue is clear over the fray of audio effects. The Supplements should definitely opt for this, however. The picture and sound qualities are improved to the point of being noticeable and worthwhile. Extras are resolution allows for more intricate clarity that does not make new information appear, but that renders the information that is here more readily

Immediately apparent on its night time airborne prologue, the film looks fantastic. Detail is absolutely razor sharp, with the expected fine lines of clothing and skin textures all present and correct and nestling nicely alongside the pristine edges of the various locations and sets used throughout. Patterns from start to finish – be they intricate clothing designs or simply the foliage of the beautiful and lush scenery – are clearly distinct and look thoroughly natural. Maybe not quite best in class as say something like The Matrix Resurrections, but very good nonetheless. These are further unhindered by the pristine image source – no pesky grain to obscure any of the fine detail underneath. person, rightly disregards even a hint of internal growth in favor of working up the energy to push the film's content on the outside. The film is fullydrugs and unwittingly indulged itself. It is also not hard to believe that the movie that has been made around the story is a far-flung reworking of

Speaking of encountering the titular bear: here’s where Banks finds her biggest success. As expected, this drug-fueled ursine is not only smarter than your average bear, it also harbors the biggest cocaine habit this side of Tony Montana, and will do anything to feed that need. Anything. And really, the film only works whenever the 500-pound flimsily rendered apex predator is on the screen as it slices, dices, rips, and shreds its way through human fodder as it seeks out the next high. While genre lovers will likely wallow in the film’s gonzo attitude and style, it never comes close to being as wild and, ahem… gutsy, as it tries to be. There are brief featurettes and a “making-of” in addition to an alternate ending and over four-minutes of deleted and extended scenes that continue the insanity. The audio commentary with director Elizabeth Banks and producer Max Handelman is the key inclusion.definitely more of a fine tuning than it is a complete overhaul, no surprise considering that the Blu-ray was awarded a perfect core for its 1080p And much hilarity ensues as the fairly serious combination of a worried mother looking for her missing children, an angry drug dealer looking for his stash and a dogged detective hoping to make an arrest clashes head-on with the idea of a huge wild bear off its nut on cocaine. There are plenty of laughs as the bear rips limbs from torsos, young children find a bag of coke, identify it as cocaine and instantly sample it to see what happens, and Daveed and Eddie take a very emotional hostage to lead them to where the drugs are, but despite the movie being enjoyable, superbly shot and the CGI bear not as off-putting as it could have been, there is the feeling that it doesn’t quite go far enough. As these many and varied subplots intertwine, the bear wreaks more chaos and kills off various characters, leading, sadly, to a pretty foreseeable conclusion.

Universal's 2160p/HDR UHD presentation of Cocaine Bear does indeed offer a fairly stout visual upgrade over the very excellent Blu-ray, but knows its audience, and maintaining focus on what the audience wants, rather than pretentiously try to build something more into the film, The story, then, is practically nonexistent, and that's what the film wants: any semblance of forward narrative motion is due only to the progression
