What is CFexpress? The new camera memory card format

XQD cards are a relatively new card format found in several professional level still cameras from Nikon and high-end video cameras from Sony. But you can rest easy knowing all the cards on this list offer top-notch performance and will do justice to your camera.

Like all Lexar Professional line memory cards, the Gold Series Professional CFexpress Type A Card comes with a limited lifetime warranty and expert technical support. Compact Flash cards have been around for almost two decades, and have a pretty good proven record of reliability in professional and prosumer still cameras, as well as being used in several removable medium format camera backs and in some higher end video cameras. The EV compensation dial of the A7R IV has been swapped for an unmarked customizable dial – on of four if you count the dial on the rear. Lexar Professional CFexpress GOLD Series cards can be had in capacities from 128GB all the way up to 2TB.

CFexpress Type B is, right now, the most common “next generation” memory card format and has all but totally won out over the SD Association’s flawed SD Express format despite its lofty promises. Recessed contact pins mean that these are protected from physical damage from dust or electrostatic shock for more reliable performance even in harsh environments. Even if it remains solely Nikon professional cameras and Sony video using XQD, that still means that the format will survive and flourish.
