I cried reading about Viola's childhood and the way her trauma shaped her into the woman she is today. this was also my first audiobook, and i couldn’t have picked a better one to start with because viola’s performance was truly incredible.

Viola doesn’t attempt to soften the blow or make-palatable the details of her impoverished childhood, the abuse she had suffered as a black woman, the hardships she had to endure as an aspiring and then even as a blossoming actor.
