About this deal

Dark scenes appear behind a wash of excessive greyness that’s so severe at times that it can become hard to actually make out what’s going on in the picture. There is nothing performance or design-wise that depends on the association with the Euros, it's just an unfortunate occurrence that the sponsorship and branding no longer tie in. There is a content discovery feature along with direct one-press buttons on the remote and there is also compatibility with Alexa for voice commands.

The Hisense U7QF is a very good midrange LED LCD that uses Quantum Dot technology and also has Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG and HDR10 capabilities along with Dolby Atmos sound onboard. so well below the visible threshold of three and we couldn’t see any issues with TV and film viewing. The Vidaa U interface is definitely one of the better TV operating systems, it’s made by Hisense so suits this set very well. This larger display allows for a greater level of detail and visual impact, enhancing your enjoyment of movies, TV shows, and sports. Freeview Play is a service that combines on-demand and catch-up television streaming into one place, allowing you to browse forward and back to see upcoming shows from the previous week.

Blacks are good in a well-lit room but there is black crush evident, which will probably go unnoticed by the demographic this TV is aimed at. Firstly, the screen size of a 50-inch TV is larger compared to smaller options, providing a more immersive viewing experience. The 55A7GQ delivers a native 4K resolution and support for the HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision high dynamic range formats.

Any shot that isn’t pretty much blazingly bright ends up having its depth flattened, its colours shifted and its contrast hammered by the cloying greyness that hangs over everything. As such we feel it deserves a recommendation on those merits, hardcore enthusiasts probably need to look elsewhere, but you already knew that. Dolby Vision manages to use the dynamic metadata and tone mapping to make DV content look better than HDR10, but it is still hampered by a lack of peak brightness and dynamic range available from the panel. If you’re willing to spend a bit more for an even better piece of kit, the Samsung AU9000 review (50AU9000) was rated five stars in its T3 review. The variances at most window sizes can be put down to the local dimming algorithm and its approach to anti-blooming at the 1, 2 and 5% window sizes, which were significantly lower than at 10% and above. The only thing that really made a significant difference to the 55A7GQ’s black level woes was reducing the backlight setting to pretty much zero. There are easy to use menu and directional keys as well as direct one-press access to apps such as Freeview Play, Netflix and Prime, to name three. Once you turn the lights down, more issues surrounding the FALD and LCD technology become apparent with more blooming noticeable around things like subtitles and bright objects like white spaceships against the darkness of space. It lacks dynamic range and it doesn’t travel the room very well so it won’t be great for watching blockbusters.
