While this may not be a showstopper of a UHD, it looks very good and delivers a quality suite of needed improvements over the aged Blu-ray. Those amber-tinted sequences bring forth some great detail and other warmer colors to light that had been missing before. The colors are vivid and accurate, which particularly benefits the bold interiors of Slim’s dining room/dance floor and Jules’ 1974 Chevy Nova (both before and after cleaning). This isn’t to discount the rest of the cast as Bruce Willis whose career, like Travolta, wasn’t exactly going smoothly with box office and critical flops in The Bonfire of the Vanities, Hudson Hawk and Striking Distance (not to mention the awful North which came out the same year).

Seeing as I just sold my blu ray copy of Pulp Fiction the other day, the 4K edition is the next UHD purchase on my list. Directional effects moving around the soundstage are right on the money as they travel from one speaker to the next.

There are no new bonus features included here, but most of the previous bonus features have been imported over.Last night I watched the 4k edition of this movie, and you could tell from the opening scene that the 4k and HDR improvements were substantial. The story takes its own sweet time to play out, thank you very much, but its various vignettes interweave smoothly and balance each other out well indeed. The disc has a rich sounding DTS-HD Master Audio track that comes to life especially when we get Tarantino’s wonderful soundtrack selection from “Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon” and “Son of a Preacher Man” but it also excels during the dialogue-driven scenes (for which there more than a few…). WCG and HDR (of the Dolby Vision variety) implementation is faithful and respectful, allowing for deep inky blacks and rich tones that don't betray the original style of the piece, but do afford a few absolutely standout moments in amidst it all - the bookended robberies yielding some dashes of sunlight through the windows that you might not have even noticed before, or at least might not have seen in a state where they weren't overblown, and the Jack Rabbit Slim sequence a fantastic demo scene ripe with gorgeous midnight blues. From what I gather this is an older bluray release as the menu is different and the old Miramax logo comes up.

I have recently viewed the 4K release of Reservoir Dogs (review still pending), which was shot on Super 35, and the super-clean look of that disc did not sit well with me.

While it is a shame that Paramount hasn’t remastered this film for Blu-ray too, you do at least get a Digital Copy code on a paper insert. Critics and audiences worldwide hailed Pulp Fiction as the star-studded movie that redefined cinema in the 20th century. It was one of those supremely popular soundtrack albums which was played to death – rinsed – by millions of fans in the decades since, but which remains utterly inseparable from the filmic masterwork. The image exhibits a lovely dimensionality, with deep shadows and bright highlights—both of which retain pleasing detail.
