About this deal

Hi Anton, Hmm, no I’ve not tested the difference that the volume of coffee in the hopper, but I am familiar with unexpected changes in flow rate, it’s like you’re dialed in, and then on the next shot you’re not. I’ve been using the Sage Dose Control Pro for a few months and I’m usually quite happy, using it daily for espressos with my Lelit Mara X.

Admittedly, cheap Aldi coffee to use up first then going on to Lavazza, but will it make all that much a of a difference to grind size? It's just ridiculously user-friendly, and that's the main thing I have to say about most Sage machines, really, they seem to think of just about everything to make them as idiot-proof as possible, although to be fair even Sage couldn't do quite a good enough job of that with this idiot, as I couldn't figure out to start with how to get the Gaggia classic portafilter to rest in the portafilter cradle. I can’t remember if I programmed the extraction time when I first configured the EC685, but it is about 30s. An ideal coffee machine you can pair with the Sage Dose Control Pro would be the Sage Barista Express . So, if you’re looking to up your game in the coffee world then check out this compact espresso grinder from Sage.

It depends on the beans of course, but I often find myself grinding at a setting of 1 and still getting fast flowing, under-extracted shots. At the moment I use pre-ground coffee from a local roasting company, of course in 3 different courses. To get this consistent grind you should look at what control features the espresso coffee grinder has. Its durable aluminium build qualities and stylish aesthetic does make this espresso grinder hard to resist. There are pros and cons of each of these coffee grinders and it all depends on the type of brew method you use, the precision of grind you desire and your budget.

I think there have been a few issues with some models, but I’ve also heard that the Baratza support team are really good, to be fair. At present I use what I believe is termed a blade grinder, which is perfectly adequate for my Bialetti, and french press, but realise that I need something a little more refined for my new machine. One downside with this espresso grinder is that there are no numbers to identify its current grind setting, which makes switching different brew settings more difficult.Whilst you can remove a worn impeller through the lower burr quite easily, a new one won’t fit through it and you have to do quite a substantial dismantling of the machine to remove the lower burr.

Whereas most electric coffee grinders offer more flexibility as you can change the grind size, shot size, grind time and quantity. I’m attracted to the easy of use of the Sage Smart Grinder Pro and this one would probably a better one that suits my needs.A medium to medium-fine grind size — 375-800 microns — allows for a steady flow of water through the coffee bed, preventing excessive clogging, slow filtration, or fine particles from entering the lower chamber. If you’re just starting out and learning the ins and outs of espresso then the Intuitive nature of the Smart Grinder Pro will aid your learning. The obvious difference between the Sage Barista Pro and the Dose Control is the LCD screen or lack thereof.
