Another spectacular spot you can visit in south Cornwall is Marazion, pronounced Maraz-eye-un’, which is home to St Michael’s Mount.

As a protected harbour, there is a huge history to uncover here as well as following in the footsteps of literary giants who adored it. That said, I have a personal reason for being interested in Cornwall, and it is a popular vacation destination in England. To begin with, we used the illustrations to help think up of some vocabulary to describe the setting and what they think it would be like, linking in with the senses. Near Christmas, this perilous storm kept villagers inside their port; cutting them off from food supplies.

Our magical puppet and live-action production is performed annually in the heart of Mousehole alongside the village’s famous Christmas light display. As well as the sandy Mousehole Harbour Beach there is another beach you may want to check out on the Newlyn side of town. A beautifully illustrated book, which mingles history and legend to tell a stirring story of heroism and storms at sea and a very special cat. Based on the legend of Cornish fisherman Tom Bawcock and the stargazy pie, [1] it tells the tale of a cat who goes with its owner on a fishing expedition in rough and stormy seas.

Into the belly of the boat tumbled ling and launces, scad, hake and fairmaids; enough fish for a whole cauldron of morgy-broth; enough pilchards for half a hundred star-gazy pies. The illustrations are quite beautiful and I really like that, within neither the story nor the illustrations, do the cats ever behave like anything other than regular cats. But Mowzer has tamed many a wild tom cat before, and perhaps she will have a way to calm the Storm-Cat, too. Unfortunately, it was not always such a harmonious place and lots of villagers faced starvation from the wild seas.As huge tax levies were placed on imported goods, it meant many of the labourers and fishermen couldn’t survive. Most recently I wrote Tales from the Ballet and then, for Puffin, the Dancing Shoes series about Lucy Lambert who wants to be a ballerina.

There are around 80 permanent resident birds here who are too sick to be sent back out into the wild. The main one is by Quay Street which is the easiest of the car parks to get in and out of right as you enter. That was until Tom Bawcock decided to brave the waters one night and rowed his boat out into the eye of the storm. Cornwall is filled to the brim with ancient sites dating back thousands of years to the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. Especially as there are lots of people walking around too and you can get stuck in a head to head with another car.

When the Great Storm-Cat of the seas comes raging along the Cornish coast one bitterly cold winter, preventing all the fishing boats from going out, the residents of Mousehole - both human and feline - face starvation, Tom - too old to leave a grieving widow or parents, and with children grown and far away - decides that it is up to him to do something. Being an avid Poldark fan, I was on the hunt for some of the top filming locations and stumbled upon this serene cove on my adventures.
