About this deal

It’s a powerful, challenging polemic: David Lammy describes it as “recalibrat[ing] the conversation of race to ignite transformational change”. There has for the longest time been an expectation on black people to unpick the learning of some white people. The reality is that every single language or rhetoric we hear today existed 50 years ago, 500 years ago, so what we have to do is not shy away from fighting the good fight.

This is Why I Resist Dr. Shola Mos-Shogbamimu on her book This is Why I Resist

By her definition, feminism is about the “solidarity of women from all creeds, races and backgrounds for the universal goal of equality and the end of patriarchy and misogyny.

Look, the conversation around white supremacy and the way white supremacists’ rhetoric is cloaked with an aura of respectability – it wears suits today, it wears nice dresses today, it’s on TV today. I’ve dedicated a chapter in my book to deconstructing what racism is, deconstructing what white privilege is and what they mean in everyday life. She tells me, however, that the stars aligned in 2020 – so she could finally speak through her first book.

This is Why I Resist - Headline Publishing Group

Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu is a political and women’s rights activist, a lawyer and the founder of Women in Leadership, which publishes content focused on women's interests to inspire leadership journeys. And that’s why I address critical ongoing conversations around reverse racism, deconstructing white privilege, engaging on the tactics used to silence and stigmatise black people and ethnic minorities like, you know, ‘playing the race card’. Mos-Shogbamimu was a fervent campaigner, an attendee at rallies, but thinks the next move will be a long game.Perhaps some things you already agree with, some things you were not aware of, some things you totally disagree with: here is my conversation with you. At least DR SHOLA Mos-Shogbamimu has revealed her political and cultural beliefs in straight language. My book is speaking to those who are ready to be challenged, who are ready to have thought-provoking solutions to an ongoing structural issue. Not only was she on the front line, she marched with passion and commitment, with her at the helm with us we felt we could make change and make anything possible. With a little help from her 11-year-old she has, as they say, taken to TikTok to help spread her messages to an audience used to a more transient medium.
