It was a children's book of the month on LoveReading4Kids, where Tricia Adams described it as "much anticipated and destined to be a classic that will be taught everywhere.

The review is behind a paywall, but she described it as "spectacular" and "another roaring success". I feel like this is far too long overdue but I wanted to thank you for writing the absolutely fantastic books that are Varjak Paw and The Outlaw Varjak Paw. They had created these amazing story maps, and were able to tell the story themselves by using them!I lent my original copy to a friend several years ago, and I actually finally got it back from that same friend a few weeks ago.

The truth is, there isn't any particular building in the real world that inspired the Contessa's house. I first read Varjak Paw when I was in primary school, it was the book that brought me into the world of reading.They were eating supper, munching and crunching from rows of china bowls, neat and regular: bowls of food, bowls of water, round white saucers of full-cream milk.

Phoenix by SFSaid is our read aloud so we have LOTS of shadow guards, Lucky’s mum, Bixa, the whole universe and Mystica!The first thing to say is that I wanted the book to be told entirely from Varjak's point of view, and to Varjak, it's not any particular city - it's just the city.
