About this deal

These days, I have the hair on my head pretty much under control (or so I’d like to think), but like most women, the hair on my legs is an ongoing battle.

During the winter, most of us occasionally skip shaving and cover up with opaque tights or cozy pants. The instructions aren’t clear on whether you’re supposed to keep the unit plugged in while you apply the wax, so I kept it connected to ensure that the wax stayed warm. The hair on my head was unruly and frizzy, and I was constantly trying to tame it with mousse, an iron (flat irons weren’t a thing yet), or a helmet of hairspray. Then I suddenly despised it, and even though my mother urged me to avoid shaving because “it’s not as much fun as it looks,” true to my stubborn personality, I ignored her. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author and are not indicative of the opinions or positions of Veet.

For the best results, it helps to exfoliate the day before, wash the area with warm water and dry it carefully immediately before waxing. The wax has a consistency similar to cool maple syrup, and it goes on pink, which makes it easy to see where you need to apply the strips. I peeled open my strips and had them near by ready, pressing the smooth roller of the handset against my shin as I moved downwards from knee to ankle.Use the provided perfect finish wipes to get rid of any excess wax, although if you’ve run out of these you can use baby oil and a cotton swab. If you’re looking for a neat and tidy system of hair removal, wax is never the first option that comes to mind. My legs feel amazing right now, they’re speckled red from the follicles being open, just like at a salon, but there’s not a hair in sight.

Now I am feeling like a very proud and independent woman for totally owning my second ever attempt at home waxing thanks to Veet! From that point on I could hardly contain my excitement as I stuck, rubbed, whipped and stripped both of my lower legs. I was determined to erase the horrific teenage memories of burning my legs with dripping hot wax, as I left the cloth strips stuck to my fuzzy shins, too busy crying like a baby to bare the thought of pulling them off.I’ve tried at-home waxing in the past (the kind with a pot of wax and a Popsicle stick), but I ended up spilling it on my arm, resulting in a bald patch that lasted for weeks. The kit comes with a handset, one 50ml roll-on wax refill, twelve non-woven strips, four depilatory wipes in individual sachets, a base to hold the handset, a mains supply, instruction leaflet and two year guarantee. I was pleasantly surprised when my legs weren’t left feeling sticky; I didn’t need to use a perfect finish wipe, so I decided to save them for future use. By the time I got to the second leg I waxed my legs in straight lines from one point all of the way back round and it was far quicker and efficient.
