About this deal

The version I did for the record was a kind of psychedelic/ kraut rock version so having the opportunity to work with my friends Broadside Hacks on a traditional cover which they put together so beautifully has been really brilliant. Also opening at Picturehouse Central on May 1st will be a special art exhibition: the May Day series, featuring art by Joe Machine and words by Dr Steven O’Brien, and inspired in part by THE WICKER MAN.

in September 2021: a diverse array of left-field artists injecting fresh life into songs whose original authors have been lost in time. They make the themes feel too on the nose, some of Willow’s dialogue to Lord Summerisle feels like a potential spoiler and Christopher Lee’s fabulous Lord is best kept up the film’s sleeve until later – as per the theatrical version. It’s a creeping slow burn full of fascinating rituals (which are more cool than scary in this day and age), with a final reckoning that has been “homaged” by everything from Midsommar to Kill List to A Serbian Film. The additional footage is sourced from 35mm prints, which are the only known sources for this material. The new 4K restoration, to mark the film’s 50th anniversary, is stunning and an absolutely unmissable cinematic event whether this is your first or fiftieth appointment with The Wicker Man.

THE WICKER MAN (all 3 versions) will then be released in an exclusive Collector’s Edition and on 4k UHD for the first time on September 4th 2023.To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the folk-horror classic, THE WICKER MAN, STUDIOCANAL is delighted to announce a brand-new 4K restoration of the film and a series of special events and releases, beginning this Spring and culminating with a Collector’s Edition release in September. If you have only been introduced to the story of The Wicker Man by the Nic Cage remake then I highly recommend you check out the 1973 original, it is a powerful piece of cinema history that takes you on a bizarre journey and really gives you the shock factor when it comes to the final moments of the movie. Can Howie now stop the cult’s ultimate sacrifice before he himself comes face to face with the horror of The Wicker Man? Her broadcasting career has flourished over more than two decades and now she is one of the most well-respected and sought-after personalities in the film, television and audio industry.

The series includes material drawn from historical sources, personal interpretations, and fusions of the past and present eras of myth, folklore, and religion. The 5-disc Collector’s Edition will also include an exclusive EP from Heavenly Records, a 64-page booklet with brand new essays, 3 ‘Postcards from Summerisle’ and 2 posters of the new and original artwork. THE WICKER MAN is also much celebrated for its soundtrack, composed by Paul Giovanni and overseen by Gary Carpenter, featuring haunting reworkings of traditional British folk songs. A masterpiece of not just folk horror, or British horror, but horror in general, The Wicker Man is a classic for a reason. The reproduction, modification, distribution, or republication of the content (including RSS feeds) without permission is strictly prohibited.Colour grading and restoration were completed by Silver Salt Restoration UK who dedicated over 500 hours to fix physical damage to the 35mm negative, manually clean and remove dirt, sparkle and scratches. The Wicker Man stars Edward Woodward (Hot Fuzz), Christopher Lee (Dracula) and Britt Ekland (The Man With the Golden Gun) and is directed by Robin Hardy. There will be an exclusive musical performance by Broadside Hacks, covering 4 tracks from the iconic soundtrack. As a Wicker Fan, these are fun additions and it is always a thrill to see more of something you love, but the extra scenes of the locals being naughty, Howie in church and Lord Summerisle sending a young lad to Willow to lose his virginity, all of which come in the first third, result in the film playing its hand too early. Audio and picture-wise, The Final Cut of The Wicker Man looks incredible, like it was shot yesterday, and the wonderful folk song soundtrack is as clear as a bell.
