About this deal

Brainard adopted a "no comment" approach to art, allowing whatever meaning accrued in his glued-together worlds to go unexplained. One thing I wish Brainard (or the people who compiled this final version of "I Remember") had done is arrange the memories, generally, from earliest to latest. This is an enjoyable read, and – whether you’re looking for inspiration or not – will have you writing your own list of I remembers in no time.

I remember (recently) getting blown while trying to carry on a normal conversation on the telephone, which, I must admit, was a big turn-on somehow. Me parece que todos encerramos en lo más profundo de nosotros mismos vergonzosos recuerdos similares a los aquí recogidos en la creencia de que nadie más los tiene o de que nadie podría comprendernos. recommended Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version)” as an exercise soundtrack; soon, I was clocking my runs by it. In 1973, the Museum of Modern Art in New York published Brainard's I Remember Christmas , a new text for which he also contributed a cover design and four drawings.Joe Brainard remembered a lot of things and will be remembered as a lot of things: foremost as a master of collage and assemblage, and so, by necessity as well as temperament, an obsessive collector of materials and appropriator of images; also as a painter; a poet; and a friend. The book is powerful, moving, easy to read, has a sense of familiarity, and can speak across the generations.

If someone’s chasing you down the street with a knife, you just run, you don’t turn around and shout, "Give it up! At once intensely personal and strikingly universal, Brainard's I Remember has remained a cult classic ever since (though this magnificent yolk-yellow edition is the first UK publication). I remember tight white T-shirts and the gather of wrinkles from under the arms… I remember regretting things I didn't do… I remember when 'beehives' really got out of hand.I Remember has inspired many homages, none more notable than OuLiPian Georges Perec's Je me souviens which was dedicated to Brainard.

I would make a case for I Remember as one of the twenty or so most important American autobiographies, important for its air of unimportance and for its mingling of cultural bric-a-brac with sexual frankness and self-revelation. They almost serve as writing prompts, or at least memory prompts, which get you thinking about what you remember too. Un autoritratto di un giovane uomo che si apre ai suoi lettori, anche ai curiosi come me, senza vergogna o imbarazzo, ma con verità per apprezzarlo ancora di più. I remember how all I could do when Brainard was remembering a '50s Oklahoma childhood was myself remembering a '90s Iowa childhood. that I know that the scarf Swift leaves at “your sister’s house” is the navy-and-maroon-striped Gucci scarf she was photographed wearing during her 2010 relationship with Gyllenhaal.

His memories are an assortment of pop culture ("I remember 'Love Me Tender,'" "I remember the Liz-Eddit-Debbie scandal") to food ("I remember 'Payday' candy bars and eating the peanuts off first then eating the center part," "I remember 'Spam. Me parece que hay que ser muy valiente o nada pudoroso o indiferente a la mirada ajena para escribir muchos de estos recuerdos. I remember reading the word "gnomic" for the first time years ago, and being disappointed it had nothing to do with gnomes. Segunda lección que la iniciación sexual es igual de complicada para todo el mundo, con independencia de tu sexo, género o preferencia. if you started a book with 𝘪 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 and went on and on with every sentence like that, what do you remember?

His memories are deeply sensual, and it's impossible to get far without being struck by a corresponding flood of one's own. Whereas the New York School's poetry bore little resemblance to the Abstract Expressionism of the New York School of painters, Brainard’s work could be seen as an artist’s take on the poet's aesthetic. I remember magazine pictures of very handsome male models with perfect faces and, with an almost physical pang, wondering what it would be to look like that. The prose, while competent and so minutely divided that it defies most analysis, isn't particularly winning and does not have the rhythm or heart of poetry many prose poets chase, though it certainly has a human heart behind it. Excerpts from the Angel Hair editions appeared in Interview , Gay Sunshine , The World and the New York Herald .Me acuerdo de querer dormir en el patio de atrás y de que se riesen de mí diciendo que no iba a aguantar la noche entera y de, al final, dormir fuera y no aguantar la noche entera. In the Library of America collection, the paragraphs on the first page take up four lines, two lines, one line, one line, four, two, two, two, and two, respectively.
