The book has crisp, vibrant red cloth boards with an embossed image of a wreath and the head of a child to front. Spiker and Sponge build a fence around it and earn money by selling viewing tickets to tourists; James is locked in the house, only able to see the peach and the crowds through the bars of his bedroom window.

This sort of description is not just good for children’s imagination but is good writing for any book. The insects become James friends and so the children are more likely to love them than be horrified by them.
