A well-balanced entry in the Jura range, made up of both smoky and unpeated whisky matured in bourbon casks and finished in sherry, adding darker notes to the soft smoke and fresh fruit of the distillery's whisky. It really does take a while due to the ever changing flavours which start off full of fruit but then settle into a deeper, pepper taste which compliments the fruit perfectly.

Sweet and balanced on the palate without smoke for me, and on the finish a delightful apple, with crumble. One of only 285 bottles, this Single Malt from Jura was allowed to mature for 12 years in a single refill hogshead cask. It is warm in colour with aromas of fruit, cracked pepper and dark chocolate and flavours of nectarines, ginger and freshly ground coffee.

This exceptional single malt matures in American white oak ex-bourbon and hand-selected American Rye barrels, imparting depth and complexity. I am disappointed as Jura was a good distillery once, but this has non of the complexity or warmth that I remember from 15 years ago. All the flavour notes are there but it feels like they’ve been added as some sort of concentrate and that the whisky is a fiery, youthful one which has had this and colouring added to fool someone.Finish Still fruity, the woody spice picks up with prickles of warming pepper, balanced by sweet, nutty caramel.

Generally I love Jura for its smooth brandy-like velvetty flavour, I an not entirely convinced by this particular permutation. We'll send them to be recycled and you'll save paper, carbon emissions and time at the recycling centre! This crafty combo of casks imparts a delightful layering of vanilla, caramel, tropical fruit, and warming, prickly spice – a splendid dram for sipping at the end of a long day.Proper Scottish porridge – a pinch of salt and rich oats – stirred through with a spoon of decadently sweet Strawberry jam and sprinkled with raisins. Nose Zesty wafts of fresh lemon peel and candied orange open things up followed by mint leaves and blossom.
