The diarrhea and laxative effects of magnesium salts are due to the osmotic activity of unabsorbed salts in the intestine and colon and the stimulation of gastric motility [ 57]. Target multiples at retirement reflect estimated spending needs in retirement (including a 5% reduction from preretirement levels), taxes, and Social Security benefits based on the SSA. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends 1 mg/kg daily iron supplementation for exclusively or primarily breastfed full-term infants from age 4 months until the infants begin eating iron-containing complementary foods, such as iron-fortified cereals [ 20].
