About this deal

Love it or loathe it, the Jim Beam distillery DNA has been evident in every expression I have tried from Knob Creek. This is also an ABV at (or near) which we find a lot of whiskey, so it’s a good benchmark for comparison. Knob Creek is a small batch bourbon produced by Jim Beam and is distilled in a more traditional form and matured for nine years.

Not dominant but recognizable is the vanilla, followed by a fresh fruity note that delights the palate. The flavor is distinct due to its light sweetness aquired during the 9 year aging process, during which it absorbs more sugar than usual. The whiskey is part of the Small-Batch-Bourbon-Collection and is considered as a beginner variant in this series. Under the care of seventh-generation distillers, minutes become days, the days become years and the years become bourbon. Knob Creek Rye: a 100 proof (50% ABV) straight rye whiskey bearing the Knob Creek name was released in 2012.Named after Abraham Lincoln's boyhood home in Kentucky, Knob Creek is produced by Beam Suntory at the Jim Beam distillery in Clermont, Kentucky. Copper to medium amber in colour, it is a bold balance of deep, pre-Prohibition-style bourbon with a robust oak taste, complemented with hints of smooth vanilla and layered caramel.

Part of the Jim Beam family, Knob Creek hearkens back to the day when all bourbon was small batch, and is made in pretty much the same way. Created to represent whiskey before it was mass produced, Knob Creek embodies the look, feel and taste of pre-prohibition bourbon. I know I didn’t put this in the review, but I had a chance to sample a NAS Knob Creek Small Batch from 2018 and I could barely find any difference between the two.Bottles were 100 proof and aged for 14 years, which is 5 years longer than the Original 100 and Knob Creek Single Barrel. Food critic Morgan Murphy said "Aged 9 years, this whiskey stands as one of the first premium, small-batch bourbons. These floral notes really bloom and intensify as the whiskey moves toward the midpalate, where I get a juicy burst of tangerine and another, different nutty flavor, this time the unmistakable bitterness of almonds. One of the younger Flor de Caña offerings, this 7 year old rum is perfectly primed for mixing into all your favourite rum cocktails. A bit of Googling will point toward a wheated mash bill, and the different flavors that imparts relative to a high rye mash bill.

This may sound elementary to the more experienced drinkers in the audience, but please remember that we all start somewhere. A desire to recreate a style and standard of bourbon that existed prior to this state of affairs was the motivation for Noe to establish Knob Creek as a brand. Rye, spice and barley malt come through alongside butterscotch and vanilla, rounded the drink off perfectly. Knob Creek was launched in 1992, under the direction of Booker Noe, who is the grandson of Jim Beam.I’m glad they brought the age statement back, but honestly, it’s not like it became massively more oaky or refined. The primary expression of the brand is aged for 9 years and bottled at 100 proof (higher than the typical 2 years and 80 proof that are the minimums required by U.

Going back to the first part of this review: I’m thinking about others who are perhaps earlier in their whiskey journey. my palate is by no means refined but I picked out the butter and clove along with the slightly dry finish.Old Grand-dad Bonded, Early Times BiB, Evan Williams BiB, Buffalo Trace and Wild Turkey 101 are all excellent value bourbons.
