About this deal

While monitoring/mixing, engineers will frequently boost and tune out certain frequency ranges to better focus on specific parts of a mix.

The high frequency response is typical Beyerdynamic and the whole curve follows the same trends as DT 770 Pros, yet when comparing both headphones head to head, the gap is bigger than graphs might suggest. If you have thick hair or wear glasses, it can break the headphones' seal on your head and cause a drop in bass.

Soundstage is overall solid for a closed back, good enough instrument separation to keep the sound from becoming claustrophobic. It’s very different from both the more V-shaped-sounding DT 770 Pro, as well as from the other Beyerdynamic headphones that I’ve listened to, which for me have had a bit too much energy in the treble region. The slight recession in addition to the tremendous bass causes the midrange to sound like an afterthought, veiled even.

The German Beyerdynamic recently has been renewing their existing line-up with a rev 2 of their existing best-sellers like the T1.DT 1770 Pro’s are quite far from being the most neutral-sounding closed-backs, but they sure sound fun and complement many genres. Overall the DT1770PRO has great build quality – as usual – but the quality of the materials used in the new DT1770PRO just is level up, giving it a higher level finish. The aesthetics are nothing special but there is some beauty in their simpleness which, along with the good build quality, makes them look like a set of headphones that are not cheap. Headphones come with a nice set of accessories and spares – a semi-hard case for storage and transportation, two slightly different sets of ear pads and two mini-XLR cables, a 5 meter long coiled and a 3 meter straight one. Their sound profile is quite neutral, so it's suitable for a variety of genres and types of content.

Ultimately I could speak volumes as to how these headphones made me feel, but it's truly something you ought to experience for yourself. Beyerdynamic is not a site advertiser and the pictures in this review are from Beyerdynamic, except those with the HFN watermark. As I mentioned earlier, the DT 1770 Pro includes two different sets of pads, one being made of velour and the other one being made of pleather. They also include an extra set of leatherette pads that have no indication from Beyerdynamic as potentially sound altering. In my experience, I actually found both to be almost identical, with the only noticeable differences that I heard being that the pleather pads seem to slightly emphasize both the bump in the midbass, and the 8.Now for EQ, whilst it’s peaky treble and somewhat dark bass and mids combo can be a little awkward, I didn’t find that the DT 1770 Pro had me reaching out for EQ as desperately as I would with other Beyerdynamic headphones.
