About this deal

One final note: BLACK WIDOW is part of Brookmyre’s Jack Parlabane series, but it can absolutely be read as a standalone—that’s how I read it, and I had no problem with it whatsoever.

There’s no better time to watch a slasher movie—or read a slasher book—than October, and if your idea of perfect Halloween entertainment involves villains like Michael Myers or Freddy Krueger, the book I’m recommending today is the Halloween read for you. Page-turning, fresh, and just the right amount of weird, THE FAMILY GAME is a perfect choice for your winter to-read list. A crime novelist with a flair for psychological thrillers tinged with a wicked pinch of black comedy, Chris (Christopher) Brookmyre made his name with a series of novels featuring detective Jack Parlabane (a character he said he based in part on Douglas Adams’ Ford Prefect). Mail on Sunday YOU Magazine Chilling, gripping and exquisitely unpredictable Daily Record Black Widow does its best to evade you at every turn, demanding your full attention Scotland on Sunday Chris Brookmyre has some claim to be the leading satirical novelist currently at work in Britain Daily Telegraph Enthralling and entertaining Daily Express A biting satire, nuanced enough to avoid polemic Sunday Telegraph A briskly paced thriller with a sense of confident contemporary relevance The List Chris Brookmyre does an exceptionally good job . Overall a very good quality service from this seller and I would not hesitate to recommend this seller.I've always been fascinated by these kind of stories, however, Black Widows fell a little flat for me. The more I read, the more I was hooked Crime Review Black Widow is a stand-out thriller, reminiscent of the best of Nordic Noir but with its own vivid landscape Renee Knight (author of Disclaimer) Tense, intense and quite, quite brilliant Jenny Colgan Has all the verbal and narrative energy of his best work. Told in elegant slices, cutting between a court room trial and the events surrounding it, the story’s characters are compelling and the mystery is evoked with scalpel-like precision by the talented Brookmyre. Turns out, my reading list just needed a dose of Brookmyre's gritty, gripping writing to ease this fatigue.

While this was not a fast paced, nail biting thriller it WAS a very character driven drama, mystery, thriller. Overall: a slow burner suspense novel, readers will be stumped working out who killed Blake while being enthralled with the idea of a polygamous marriage.Brookmyre excels at melding the true chills of a psychological thriller with rollicking–if dark–humor. Through the story, with each wife telling their version, both with Blake and each other, their respective pasts are revealed. In today’s blog post, I’m recapping my experience at Iceland Noir 2022, including a day-by-day recap of the festival, lots of photos, a rundown of the books I took home from the festival, and more! Tbh the Southern dialect was such a bizarre choice that I would've dnfed if the tropes weren't my faves of all time.

Still on the mend from a turbulent divorce, Jack's investigation into matters of the heart takes him to hidden places no one should ever have to go. Coffee machines in Utah also serve Postum (a drink that no one in Utah has consumed since 1984) because, you see, Latter-day Saints don't drink coffee. The story is told from the three wife's perspectives with alternate chapters that tell us of the events before and after Blake's death. These would be minor things but for the fact that the whole plot centers around religion, so to have such an obvious confusion of facts on the main subject matter was a head-scratcher to me. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item.As they are interviewed by the police, we get to know each of these three women and their secrets, which involve sexual dysfunction and an even scarier cult, while wondering which if the three-- if any of them-- did it. Anyways, I'll be the first to admit this isn't a literary masterpiece and there's some swiss cheese plot hole moments.

A huge thank you to Sourcebooks Landmark and Cate Quinn for sending me a free copy in exchange for an honest review. It's too bad the author had no idea what she's talking about because she had an interesting premise for a mystery novel.I actually liked way the storyline unfolded through the POVs - each wife delivered first-person accounts with a possible fourth person scenario hinted at, just for kicks. The two women strike up a remarkable friendship that threatens to challenge even the most diverse of experiences. I’m so honored to be able to reveal the cover for Vanessa Lillie’s buzz-worthy new mystery here on CBTB today! All'inizio del racconto, Rachel, la prima moglie, una devota mormone, molto modesta, è quella che proprio non sopporto.
