About this deal

The master is otherwise the same as the steelbooks (also minus the grain filter), but the cropping makes the filtering even more obvious. Seriously, i simply cannot bring myself to watch the latter two, because the first was awful and shows just how amatuer the FUNi cast was in the early 2000's while the second was them trying to make their stuff from a certain point seem less bad but it was an inconsistent, patch worked attempt with only marginal improvements. Here's my take: the video on the Blu-ray is better than all the other versions, although Kai came close.

Because a release doesn't have to be perfect to be definitive it just has to be better then its competition.

While the Z sets are cropped to achieve a widescreen (16:9) presentation, the original Dragon Ball and GT sets are presented in the original 4:3 aspect ratio. Personally I'm leaning toward selling my season 1 steelbook and relying on my level sets for season 1 as I can probably sell season 1 for half of what I payed for seasons 2-9 lol. While Sabat resumed playing Moori in the dub of the Namek Saga (and the Kid Buu Saga), his performance in the original dub of episode 100 was much different of how he would portray the character later on, using a high-pitched voice with a heavy Texan accent. While the original Dragon Ball anime followed Goku through childhood into adulthood, Dragon Ball Z is a continuation of his adulthood life, but at the same time parallels the maturation of his son, Gohan, as well as other characters from Dragon Ball and more.

Like Season 3 (and for all upcoming Seasons for the Remastered "Orange Bricks" DVD Sets) there are sound effects removed, such as Trunks landing in Episode 119 having a "BANG" sound effect when he lands in the Original Dub mix, as well as that same sound effect playing a few times after that to match the Faulconer Productions music track "Trunks Appears". Besides obviously being incomplete, they seem to be regarded as the definitive best versions you could watch. The Hyperbolic Time Chamber echo and reverb effects found on the Toonami Broadcast and VHS/DVD Single releases are entirely and unintentionally removed, due to the fact that they did an entirely new mix from scratch, thus the edits done to the original English Dub are gone in the Remastered Home releases. I love the options to watch complete original Japanese voices/music or the English with the option to have the American soundtrack.

I don't think we're ever going to see Dragon Ball Z in 4:3 again outside of the next "LIMITED EDITION ONLY FOR REAL DRAGON BALL Z FANS A MUST HAVE FOR ANY COLLECTOR!
