About this deal

Flowering can be exhausting for Venus Flytraps, and most plants will grow more vigorously during summer if prevented from flowering. It is a fraud, and as the flies crawl into the chamber at the bottom they become imprisoned by a ring of hairs pointing downwards.

The hinged traps are edged with small bristles that interlock when the trap shuts to ensure the prey can’t squirm out. Species of the genus Cypripedium (lady slippers) of orchids trap insects temporarily to ensure pollination. This fun plant is carnivorous and 'catches' flies, much to the amusement of anyone lucky enough to see it in action. It just looks like a weird flower with flys printed on it (to reassure real, live flys it's safe to land? If you choose to not allow your Venus flytrap to flower and cut off the flower stalk, be sure not to waste it!To remove the sticker peel the sticker off from the corner marked “to remove peel here” and wrap-up the removed sticker before placing it in the bin. Like many other carnivorous plants, they evolved to grow in damp, low-nutrient soil, and giving them bottled, filtered, or tap water can result in a build-up of minerals that will eventually kill your Venus Flytrap. Particularly large varieties include ‘Slack’s Giant’ and ‘South West Giant’, the latter of which originated in the UK. The tissue is left in this medium until good leaf formation has occurred (somewhere between eight and 16 weeks).

The stickers are easy to peel so are easy to set-up in position and to remove when the surface is full of flies. The best success I’ve had is by simply cutting the stalk when it is between 1 inch and 3 inches high and sticking it straight into the ground. If you know anything about the sexual reproduction of plants through flowers, then this will be old news for you. Digestive acids are then produced by the leaf which kill, then dissolve the body and absorb the valuable nutrients. Hybridizers have expended considerable effort over the years creating new daylilies featuring flowers with new colors, color combinations, shapes and patterns. The trap reabsorbs this nutritious soup, and - after about a week - reopens, using the carcass to attract new visitors. One of the main flies that successfully pollinate for the plant is Psychoda flies also known as the drain flies.

Winter dormant daylilies require a cold period of winter dormancy for the best display of blooms, and are not recommended for hardiness Zones 9 and above. During the Winter months the plants will go into dormancy and most of the foliage will die back turning black in colour ,if growing indoors move Venus Flytrap plants to a much cooler position at this time, keep the compost just damp rather than wet and remove any dead black foliage. Temperatures in the Carolinas frequently hit 30°C (86°F) during summer and drop below 0°C in in the winter (32°F), and so Venus Flytraps are perfectly happy in the many temperate climates - including the UK and much of the US - provided they are protected from the elements. The structures found in large flowers such as those of Rafflesia and some Aristolochia are also evolved to attract and trap pollinators. The design of trapping devices in pollination traps of the genus Arum (Araceae) is related to insect type". Flowers are produced in succession in such quantity that the plants remain in flower over a long period of time. Your best options are rainwater, distilled or deionised water, or water produced by a reverse osmosis system.
