Grimly is famous for his mix of macabre with zaniness - he depicts monsters, witches, the undead - but it isn't scary, it is fun (I think the shambling zombie Billy Butcherson deliberately looks a little bit like Alice Cooper).For the first time ever, fans and readers of all ages can enjoy the full story of the immensely popular Hocus Pocus with this deluxe Illustrated Novelization that will show fans the likes of Max and Dani Dennison, the Sanderson Sisters, Thackery Binx the cat, and other iconic characters as only celebrated, renowned artist Gris Grimly can: in all of their darkly humorous, unique gruesome glory! Some of the illustrations also left much to be desired and could’ve been more detailed in my opinion. A teen boy (with an annoying little sister) who recently moved to Salem, Massachusetts, from Southern California and doesn't believe in witches (but has a crush on a local girl who does), sets some particularly nasty witches loose on the town and has to work with crush girl, annoying sister, and a talking cat try to fix his macho boy mistake. The written format often allows for such things more easily than the visual, and it would not have been hard to push things a bit without overly impacting the established plot.

As others have already mentioned in their reviews, the book for the most part is exactly like the movie, with the characters using the same dialog.

They remained true to the movie while also finding ways to expand upon that and provide more detail and storytelling than perhaps we would’ve gotten from the movie alone.
