About this deal

There is no major performance change with the new HX800 over last year’s GX800 and no added features either, but it is still a strong and able TV for normal living room TV duties. Despite Panasonic’s Hollywood branding for their OLED TV line-up, the HX800 is not as well suited to darkroom viewing and critical movie watching. The use of edge-lit VA LCD technology gets in the way of producing cinematic images in the dark and there are issues visible in such environments and use. However, the Panasonic HX800 is really rather good at the traditional job of a living room workhorse with SDR TV and film content. The OLED lineup will also benefit from a 60Hz Refresh Mode that reduces input lag, and support for AMD FreeSync Premium. Audio JX850:This LCD model features Panasonic’s HDR Bright Panel Plus with HDR10+, HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision support. Here the chip is downgraded to the HCX AI Processor. It’s hardly frills-free, as it has advanced AI upscaling, Filmmaker mode and HDMI 2.1 next-gen gaming features. Panasonic is going big on OLED screens in 2023, with five in total announced at the event. That includes the MZ2000, MZ1500, MZ980, MZ800, and MZ700, with the entry-level models featuring Android TV OS as their interface.

If the manufacturer does not provide such information, the width is calculated from the diagonal and the aspect ratio. Far more exciting on the features front is the inclusion of both of the currently available dynamic metadata HDR formats: Dolby Vision and HDR10+. HID (Human Interface Device Profile) compliant keyboards are available. A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) compliant audio devices are available. The Bluetooth® word mark and logos are owned by the Bluetooth SIG, Inc. and any use of such marks by Panasonic Corporation is under license. As far as we can tell, the MZ700 looks virtually identical to the MZ800, serving as the entry-level base for Panasonic’s OLED screens. Apparently this model doesn’t have HDR10+ and the sound system is different (the MZ800 is a subwoofer). Panasonic TV 4K LCD LED MX950

On the LCD front, the 40in and 58in screen sizes of the LX800 have been dropped and replaced by 43in and 55in alternatives. There’ll also be a new 75in model available. Gaming

Energy consumption XYZ kWh per year, based on the power consumption of the television operating 4 hours per day for 365 days. The actual energy consumption will depend on how the television is used. Dolby Vision™ brings compatible UHD Blu-ray™ discs and 4K video streaming to life - with exceptional colour, contrast and brightness. Dynamic metadata, is used to adjust the HDR picture settings scene-by-scene – as the story unfolds, over dark and light sequences. This Dolby Atmos-enabled TV is fitted with a pair of standard 10W speakers, but what comes out is more impressive than most. It’s no match for even an entry-level soundbar, which we would still highly recommend, but Panasonic has tuned this limited audio equipment with a sensible balance. There’s no obvious equivalent to the MZ800 in Panasonic’s 2022 range, making this model an all new entry within the OLED fleet.

Need another reason to get excited? How about the fact that this Panasonic has been fine tuned by Hollywood colourist Stefan Sonnenfeld, meaning its cinematic chops are impeccable. So is this the new box office champion of the mainstream TV market? LZ1000: The LZ1000 uses the same processor as the two models above it but its Master OLED panel is a step down in terms of quality. It has plenty of other things going for it, however, with HDMI 2.1 ports that support next-gen gaming features, Cinema Surround Pro audio, Dolby Atmos and a swivelling stand. Image quality is impressive straight out of the box, with crisp detail and lush colours. Handling the heavy lifting is the brand’s much lauded HCX processor. Contrast is aided by effective Local Dimming. Those eyeing up the GX800 as a large, affordable gaming monitor will be pleased to hear that, while the set doesn’t support VRR, it does boast very low input lag. We measured it at 14.6 seconds, which isn’t far off the lowest current TVs are able manage. The most obvious negative is that there isn’t much weight to the sound. Gun blasts in the Deadpool freeway scene aren’t alarming or hard-hitting. You can toggle on the Bass Boost feature, but that’s missing the point. There are mid-range TVs that choose to champion bass, but often to the detriment of other areas of the sound.

When a Bluetooth device is connected to the TV, it is possible that the Bluetooth audio output may not be synchronized (i.e. be delayed) with relation to the images on the screen. This is not a defect of the TV or the device. The delay time will differ depending on the device. Also new for 2022 is support for the Netflix Adaptive Calibrated Mode, which serves the same purpose as Panasonic’s ambient light picture optimising technology but specifically for Netflix content. The GX800 obviously has a fairly narrow contrast band to work with, and Dolby Vision makes the most of this, combining highlights and lowlights in a really balanced way and revealing fine details at both ends of the spectrum. Switching Dolby Vision off often results in a slightly brighter image, but it’s tonally flatter and a tad less insightful.Whites are pure and colours are excellently judged, with skin tones a particular highlight, and while the GX800's slightly soft approach means images are a little less three-dimensional than they can be, detail levels are superb. Panasonic has been courting gamers over the past few years to compete with the likes of LG and Samsung, and its OLED screens intend to bring out the best performance yet to make sure every title looks its best.
