In addition to being a source of food, in modern times they have been favored by big game hunters due to their size and ferocity. Bear hunting has a vast history throughout Europe and North America, and hunting practices have varied based on location and type of bear.

Ever since 1989, Michael Rosen's wonderful tale along with Helen Oxenbury's brilliant illustrations have been a firm favourite for children everywhere. In 2014, it even helped break a Guinness World Record for 'largest recorded lesson' after 1,500 children, and a further 30,000 online, attended a reading of the book. It's a classic children’s book, written in 1989 by Michael Rosen, and illustrated by Helen Oxenbury. Upon his arrival at LGI, Vinnie was given medication and had to undergo daily scans, ultrasounds and x-rays. A grade 1 brain bleed was later found through one of the scans.
Vinnie was born on 20th February at just 30 weeks in Barnsley Hospital. Due to the complications of being 10 weeks premature, Vinnie was instantly transferred to Leeds General Infirmary as he had SVT; an erratic heart rate reaching a high of 300 bpm. The eldest of the children (called Stanley “Stan” in the television adaptation) is sometimes mistaken by readers as being their father but is in fact the oldest brother and sibling. They are based on Oxenbury's own children. Likewise, the dog is modelled on an actual family pet. [2] A major Leeds charity has revealed a new art initiative – which is set to be the ‘swishiest, sploshiest, squelchiest’ trail ever!
