Mineral spirits: Mineral spirits are effective at lifting dirt, grime, and stains without harming the finish of the wood. Remember to test in an inconspicuous area first to ensure no damage will occur. Then, dampen a cloth with mineral spirits and gently rub the stained area using circular motions. The mark should start to lift from the wood. All gone! The bicarbonate of soda worked on the lighter water marks but had little effect on older ones. (Image credit: Future/Natasha Brinsmead) 3. Can mayonnaise remove water rings? The white ring mark is often a result of the moisture getting trapped in the finish, creating a barrier that prevents the moisture from evaporating, and causing it to remain in the wood fibers. Next, rub the mark gently until you can no longer see the stain. You may need to buff the wood afterwards to remove subtle scratches, but as long as you avoid applying too much pressure, this method shouldn’t cause any lasting damage. This is an extra but vital step in making your wooden furniture and flooring look as good as possible, both now and in the future.

White rings can occur on any type of wood surface, but are particularly common on table tops and other furniture items that are frequently exposed to moisture and heat. Pour the Rustins Ring Remover onto a lint free cloth and rub with pressure over the mark in the direction of the grain until the mark is removed.

How to use Rustins Ring Remover

My verdict: I must say, I approached this one feeling doubtful about the results I would receive. While I have successfully used an iron to remove wax from carpet, it seemed highly unlikely that it was going to get rid of the white (or dark) water marks on my wooden worktops. The ring remover can cause a slight shiny area once used. If you are using this on a satin or matt finish, simply use the 0000 wire wool to gently rub over the shiny area to dull it slightly. We would recommend to always finish by coating with a wax. Whether you’re dealing with a water ring, a burn mark, or a deep-set dark stain, knowing how to remove stains from wood is crucial if you want to maintain your home aesthetic.Once the trapped water has evaporated, the white stain will be gone or at least significantly faded. Here’s how to go about it: Method 1: Hairdryer Hydrogen peroxide and bicarbonate of soda: Create a strong cleaning paste by mixing 3% hydrogen peroxide and bicarbonate of soda. Apply the paste to the stain, cover it with plastic wrap, leave it for a few hours, and then wipe it away. Hydrogen peroxide should clean away deep-set stains and dry the wood out, preventing moisture stains at the same time. If you haven’t got one, then a pillowcase or t-shirt will work too. Just make sure they’re plain white to avoid the risk of colour bleeding. The verdict: I started by trying it out on the very dark water stain under the coffee machine. After some scrubbing (the product comes as a powder that needs to be worked into the stain with a wet cloth or sponge), the stain had, much to my surprise, noticeably lightened.
