Overall, it's a classy looking machine that's reassuringly well built. Inside is a 320GB hard disk that can store about 80 hours of HD programming or 200 hours of standard-definition (or somewhere in between for a mixture of the two formats). Type in your postcode, this will decide which BBC One and ITV region you receive. Verifying your postcode, this is part of the Freesat software, you can use any UK postcode.
You do however misunderstand slightly, it doesn't replace the software you have, rather adds to it allowing some standard Linux and other enthusiast devoloped apps to the box. This allows you to for instance view the recordings remotely on smart TV's tablets etc (technically you can a add a DLNA server). Also copy recording files directly to a PC for viewing anywhere. There may be a varnish coating the board, sometimes visible as a green or brown tinge but sometimes practically invisible. Try scraping any shiny solder joint with a knife and see if anything comes off. If so, you will need to remove that coating from the joint before you will be able to remove the old component without burning the board. Melting lead-free solder takes extra heat, so add some leaded solder to it first. The menu system shows how outdated Sky's system is now. The EPG is a revelation with high-resolution graphics and icons and as it's overlaid you can carry on watching a show whilst navigating the EPG.The unit’s onscreen operating system is fantastic. Designed with full colour, high-resolution graphics, friendly icons and clear text, even the biggest technophobes can make basic changes with no hassle at all. The digital TV displays are similarly clear, particularly the programme information banner (called the ‘i-plate’), which tells you everything you could possibly need to know about the current programme, including the resolution and the presence of Dolby Digital. Question 3) Can non-freesat recordings manually set on remote rather than web? Although it is nice to do on web so that I can type the programme name but having to turn off the machine every time is not ideal. NOTE: It may take 5~10 minutes to update software. Other functions will not activate while the software update takes place. You cannot schedule programmes during the software update. Software Update allows you to update the system software to maintain the proper performance of the receiver.
I have postulated that it may be possible to install an alternative PSU, but as I have not been afflicted by a fault such as this I have not spent the time that would be necessary to study the problem. That said there are a few exceptions, all other ITV regions, UTV and STV in both SD and HD have full 7 day programme listing as information for these is provided by Freesat. Please note that once you perform Freesat Tune, all Freesat channels will be deleted. Select Yes and press the OK button to delete all freesat channels. We haven't had time yet to delve into the media file manager (watch out for a more in-depth review appearing here soon) but first impressions of watching and recording with the Foxsat-HDR are excellent. The display means, among other advantages, that the Humax becomes a useful radio tuner (for satellite radio, obviously), because you don't need to have the TV turned on to operate it. The Humax FOXSAT-HDR can record two channels at the same time. You can start watching a programme that is being recorded from its beginning even though the rest of the programme is still being recorded (chase play).
